About Our CompanyIn 1983, Sweet Dreems, Inc. was incorporated in order to fund a research study on the effectiveness of vibration and sound on colicky and fussy infants. The idea was developed by a father whose baby had colic and experienced frequent episodes of crying, especially at night. He noticed that his son would fall asleep during car rides. So he decided that he would try to develop a device that would mimic the sound and motion of a traveling car and could be used in the safety of his home to help calm his baby. And that's how the SleepTight ® Infant Soother came to be. Sweet Dreems, Inc. and a research team at the Ohio State University performed a 3 year controlled study which was funded by the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development (N.I.C.H.D.) in Bethesda, Maryland. The success of the study derived the SleepTight ® Infant Soother whereby 85% of the infants stopped crying in an average of 4 minutes. The SleepTight ® Infant Soother was then classified by the Food and Drug Administration (F.D.A.) as a medical device due to its effectiveness and many health insurance programs have covered it. The company later obtained 2 patents for the SleepTight ® Infant Soother medical device on Mr. Cuervo's invention to simulate a car ride by attaching to a crib a vibrating unit and a sound unit encompassing a narrow range of frequency and amplitudes of tested effectiveness. The SleepTight ® Infant Soother was then test marketed in the U.S. in late 1987. Beginning in late 1988, Ross Laboratories (a division of Abbott Laboratories) began exclusively marketing the SleepTight ® Infant Soother to the pediatricians under a Distribution Agreement with Sweet Dreems, Inc. In 1990, the Sweet Dreems, Inc. management decided to begin selling the SleepTight ® Infant Soother to the consumer through direct mail in order to achieve more effectiveness by individualizing customer service directly to parents. Over $2 million dollars was spent in the research, patenting, development and marketing efforts involving the SleepTight ® Infant Soother. We have been coordinating closely with the pediatric community since pediatricians represent an integral part of our business. Approximately 33% of our sales are derived from pediatrician recommendations and many from books and "word of mouth". Sweet Dreems , Inc is no longer marketing the SleepTight ® Infant Soother.
