SleepTight Use and Installation Instructions

1. SleepTight ® Infant Soother was used on a standard size crib only and was not be used on a bassinet, cradle or any type of portable crib. The SleepTight ® Infant Soother attachments that we provided allowed installing the device onto a spring bottom, solid particleboard or wood bottom cribs for the testing. In the event of attachment to a wood or particleboard bottom crib, we simply made two small holes (approximate size diameter of a pencil) for easy attachment (specific instructions were provided in the owners manual). The SleepTight ® Infant Soother vibration device was used with a three-prong grounded outlet.

2. A range of vibration and sound was emitted by the SleepTight ® Infant Soother, simulating the soothing experience of a car ride. The vibration motor was specifically engineered and quality tested to produce the common vibration and rattling sound of an operating car engine and such noise was not indicative of defect. The motor operated within a specific and safe range of vibration levels. The soothing vibration did not exceed these predetermined safe levels of operation even though vibration levels may have changed within the range during operation.

3. Within 12 minutes after the SleepTight ® Infant Soother was turned on, the infants tested began to experience relief from the symptoms of colic or fussiness. Studies indicated that treatment should begin as soon as the infant became fussy or cried which periodically occured at about the same time each day. The longer and more developed the crying episode became the longer and more difficult it was to reduce it.

4. SleepTight ® Infant Soother was used only until the babies tested were soothed or wnet to asleep. Since the SleepTight ® Infant Soother effectiveness occured within 12 minutes of treatment, it was suggested that each treatment not exceed 1-2 hours per crying/fussy episode (typical time of a car ride).

5. SleepTight ® Infant Soother was not recommended for use immediately following feeding. However, thereafter babies were placed safely in an infant seat (or carrier) on top of the mattress in a sitting position with the turned SleepTight ® Infant Soother on. As with all other devices, it was recommended that the baby wasnot be left unattended for long periods of time, ie, no longer than 2 hour periods of time.

6. Research shows that repeated treatments result in a gradual colic/crying reduction. Our research study was conducted on babies two weeks of age and older. Research results with SleepTight ® Infant Soother have shown effectiveness as follows: A) About 25% of the babies treated fell asleep during treatment. B) 97% experienced a reduction in the symptoms of colic. This may or may not bring the baby to a non-crying state, depending on the colic severity the baby experienced when treatment began. C) 85% experienced a reduction from a crying to a non-crying state for the typical colicky baby.

7. Some babies did not respond to treatment as rapidly as others. Some did not even respond to the first or second treatment. The typical baby's gradual reduction of symptoms itself over several treatments and improves over a period of time.

8. Typically, a baby responded to the SleepTight ® Infant Soother by gradually crying less. Some babies stop crying quickly and fall asleep; others cried for shorter periods or cried less vigorously. If there was no change in your baby's fussiness or crying after several days, discussing the problem with the baby's doctor for other medical considerations was recommended.
